Resin Art for Beginners: Essential Materials, Mixing Ratios & Safety Guide

By Manam Arts Academy

Epoxy resin is one of the most popular modern art mediums. It cures into a crystal-clear, glass-like finish, making it perfect for creating custom wall clocks, agate-slice coasters, ocean tables, and preservation jewelry.

Essential Starter Supplies

To get started, you need: 2:1 or 3:1 ratio epoxy resin and hardener, silicone stirring cups, wooden sticks, mica powders or alcohol inks, a silicone mold, and a heat gun or blowtorch to eliminate trapped micro-bubbles.

Accurate Ratio and Gentle Stirring

Always measure resin and hardener using a digital gram scale. Stir slowly in one direction for 3 to 5 minutes scraping side walls. Rushing the mix introduces excess air bubbles that spoil the glass finish.

Crucial Safety Measures

Always work in a well-ventilated room, wear nitrile gloves, and use a respirator mask. Avoid touching uncured resin, and allow your creations to cure undisturbed for 24 hours under a dust cover.
