Preparing your saree beforehand is the ultimate secret to looking elegant without the stress of last-minute adjustments. This guide shares the professional techniques we use for pre-plating sarees at Manam Arts Academy.
Step 1: Measuring the Shoulder Pallu
Begin by placing the decorated end of the saree over your left shoulder. Measure the length so it falls slightly below your knee. Make 5 to 7 uniform pleats along the border and secure them temporary with plastic clips.
Step 2: Calculating and Folding Waist Pleats
Measure the distance from your right hip, around the back, to the front waist. Fold 6 to 8 equal waist pleats, making sure the outermost pleat is slightly wider to hide the inner pleats neatly.
Step 3: Lock with Steam Press and Box Fold
Lay the pleated sections on an ironing board. Cover with a thin cotton cloth and steam press to set sharp folds. Secure with small pins and fold the remaining plain fabric into a sturdy box shape, ready to travel.
