No matter how skilled a guitarist is, playing an out-of-tune guitar sounds unpleasant. Learning to tune quickly and accurately is the very first skill every aspiring guitarist must master.
Standard Tuning Notes: E-A-D-G-B-E
From thickest string (6th) to thinnest (1st), standard guitar tuning notes are: E - A - D - G - B - E. Remember the mnemonic: 'Eddie Ate Dynamite, Good Bye Eddie'.
Method 1: Smartphone Tuning Apps

Free apps like GuitarTuna use your phone microphone to detect pitch. Pluck a string, observe whether the needle is flat (left) or sharp (right), and adjust the corresponding tuning peg slowly until the needle turns green.
Method 2: The 5th-Fret Relative Tuning Method
Once your 6th string (E) is in tune, pressing the 5th fret of the 6th string produces 'A', which matches the open 5th string. Continue this across strings (remembering that the 3rd string G uses the 4th fret to tune the 2nd string B).
